A total of 11 different institutions from The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2010-11 All-TCCC Men’s Basketball Team and the list of major individual award winners, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, Anna Maria College sophomore Anthony Click was named TCCC Player of the Year, Wentworth Institute of Technology senior Sam Herrick was chosen as TCCC Defensive Player of the Year, Nichols College freshman Ryan Sheehan was tabbed TCCC Rookie of the Year, Roger Williams’ Taylor Petruccelli was chosen Senior Scholar-Athlete, Anna Maria’s Shawn Conrad was named TCCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College and Wentworth Institute of Technology captured the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC men’s basketball coaches.

Joining Click and Herrick on the first team were Will Bardaglio (Colby-Sawyer), Ryan Birrell (Colby-Sawyer), Corey Fava (Roger Williams), and Lance Greene (Endicott).

Joining Sheehan as second team selections included Junior De La Hoz (Anna Maria), Derrick Neal (Regis), Chris Pinsonault (Anna Maria), and Greg Walker (Gordon).

Joining Petruccelli on the third team were Robbie Burke (Colby-Sawyer), David Dempsey (Gordon), Adam Dombrowski (Wentworth), John Flakes (Eastern Nazarene), Shane Hennessey (New England College), Windell Hinkson (Salve Regina) and Corey Therriault (Wentworth).

Click, a sophomore from Springfield, Mass., has been a vital member of an Anna Maria team that roared to the number one seed in the upcoming TCCC Championship, after compiling a 17-8 record regular-season record, including an impressive 11-2 mark in TCCC play.  Click was a vital member of the TCCC’s top-scoring team, as he ranked second on the AMCATS in scoring during conference play with 14.8 points per game.  The flashy Click did more than score, as he was a regular contributor in every statistical category on a daily basis.  He ranked fifth in the league in conference-only rebounds per game (8.8), an impressive feat for a 6-4 swingman.  Click also ranked second in the conference in assists per game (5.08), sixth in the league in steals per game (2.00), seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (.507) and eighth in blocked shots per game (1.23).

Herrick, a senior from Duxbury, Mass. has been a dominant presence in the middle for Wentworth, which claimed the number two seed in the upcoming TCCC Championship, following a solid 16-9 campaign, including a 10-3 record in TCCC play. The 6-11 center led all TCCC players in rebounding, snaring an impressive 12.2 boards per game during the conference portion of the schedule, including a TCCC-best 9.15 defensive rebounds per game. He also ranked eighth in the league in blocked shots, averaging 1.23 blocks per conference game.  Herrick’s defensive contribution helped guide the Leopards to the second best team defense in the conference, as WIT surrendered a stingy 57.8 points per game.  Herrick also averaged a team-best 14.5 points per game during TCCC play, which ranked 15th in the conference.

Sheehan, a freshman from North Attleboro, Mass., enjoyed a fabulous first year as a member of the Bison.  During his inaugural season in Dudley, Mass., Sheehan led all TCCC players in scoring, averaging 21.5 points per game in conference play.  He was the only TCCC player to average more than 20 points per game in both TCCC and overall competition.  An outstanding shooter, Sheehan ranked second among TCCC players in both conference-only three-point field goal percentage (.458) and conference-only free-throw percentage (.877), while ranking third in conference-only three-point field goals per game (3.38).

Petruccelli, a senior from Stratford, Conn., is a leader for Roger Williams both on and off the court.  On the basketball floor, Petruccelli was the Hawks’ leading scorer and second-leading rebounder this season, as he averaged 11.2 and 5.5 rebounds per game points per game during TCCC play, while also grabbing a team-best 15 steals. As a student, Petruccelli is equally as impressive, as he maintains a sparkling 3.8 grade point average as an accounting major.  He has been a member of the TCCC All-Academic Team since his sophomore year.  He has also been selected to the highest-level finance class at RWU, an investment portfolio class that invests a portion of the University’s endowment.

Conrad is being recognized as TCCC Coach of the Year for the first time during his five years at Anna Maria. Under his guidance, the AMCATS rolled to one of the most successful seasons in school history, posting a 17-8 overall record, including an 11-2 mark in conference play, which earned Anna Maria the top seed in the upcoming TCCC Championship.  The 17 victories marks the most wins for Anna Maria since the program advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen in 1995-96, after going 25-5, while the two losses in conference play is the fewest for an AMCAT squad in 15 years.
