Student-athletes from ten different institutions in The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-TCCC Women’s Lacrosse Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected. Curry senior Ashley Hansbury was named TCCC Offensive Player of the Year, Western New England junior Nicole Poli was picked as TCCC Defensive Player of the Year, Western New England freshman Kelsey Daniels was chosen TCCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England’s Angel Jarmusz was honored as TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Western New England’s Aimee Klepacki was honored as TCCC Coach of the Year, and Regis College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC women’s lacrosse coaches.
Joining Daniels (midfielder), Hansbury (attack) and Poli (defense) on the first team were attackers Jeanmarie Barbato (Western New England), Danica Delia (Roger Williams, Morgan DeShaw (Endicott), and Jessie Koffman (Curry), midfielders Claire Halliday (Roger Williams) and Brittney Murphy (Colby-Sawyer), defenders Kelsey Adams (Roger Williams) and Mel Brickey (Curry), and goalkeeper Marissa Bonitatibus (Western New England).
Second-team selections included attackers Jordan Alexander (Gordon), Kelly Burke (Salve Regina), and Molly Sowles (Endicott), midfielders Kellie Cunningham (Endicott), Holly Davis (Endicott), Kate Malenczak (Roger Williams) and Katie Toomy (Western New England) defenders Brittany Kane (Endicott), Kristi Leach (Gordon ), Deb MacEachern (Colby-Sawyer) and Nicole Papasergiou (Roger Williams), and goalkeeper Leah Neff (Endicott).
Receiving honorable mention were attackers Danielle Cate (U. of New England ), Nicole Squadrito (Western New England) and Hannah Tavella (U. of New England), midfielders Ana Bottary (Curry), Teresa Busiek (Regis), and Stephanie Fitzgerald (Gordon), defenders Kelsey Barnes (Endicott), Veronica Miano (Western New England), Julie Monroe (Nichols), and Erica Palmer (Roger Williams), Lauren Todd (Endicott), and goalkeepers Maria Lynch (Curry) and Justine Sullivan (Roger Williams).
Hansbury, a senior native of Chelmsford, Mass, and three-time Player of the Year winner (2009-11), ends her stellar career at Curry in style. Hansbury lead the league in goals (66), points (84), draw controls (70), and free position goals (18), while chipping in 18 assists (T-5). This senior-standout hit a career milestone when she broke the NCAA DIII career record of 440 points, where she collected 11 points against Regis to bring her career record to 441. Currently, she holds the NCAA All-Divisions Record career points (477) and goals (344), with the season not quite over. Hansbury was also the 2008 TCCC Rookie of the Year, and is a four-time First team selection. The Colonels finished the regular season at 9-2 in conference, with a #3 seed playoff berth in the upcoming TCCC women’s lacrosse championship.
Poli, a senior from Medfield, Mass. anchored the Golden Bears’ defense to an impressive year. Poli lead the conference in caused turnovers (40), and ranked third in ground balls per game (4.0) with 44 total. Poli, who was honored as TCCC Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row, led her team with 68 caused turnovers, 66 ground balls and 36 draw controls on the season. She is also currently ranked third in the nation at the NCAA DIII level for caused turnovers. .
Daniels, a freshman from South Windsor, Conn., was a key contributor for the Golden Bears in the first year of her collegiate campaign. Daniels ranked sixth in the league for goals (40) and eighth in points (50). She was a top contributor for her team leading in points (76), and ranking second in goals and assists, with 59 and 17, respectively.
Jarmusz, a senior native of Powell, Ohio, was a prime example of student-athlete, held an impressive 3.89 GPA in Sports Management and Business Communications, with a minor in Business Administration while starting in all 17 games for the Nor’easters. Her academic excellence includes making Dean’s list every semester, being a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, and has her accepted into law school next semester. In addition, she was been a runner up for the 2009-10 College of Arts and Science Junior Academic Excellence Award, and the runner up for the Jacques Down Award for upcoming young professionals.
In her twelfth season as head coach for the Golden Bears, Aimee Klepacki has enjoyed one of her most successful seasons. For the 2011 season, her team has compiled an impressive 13-4 overall record, and 10-1 conference record. This year has marked a milestone in Klepacki’s coaching success, directing her team to a 15-12 triumph over Endicott, to hand the Gulls their first conference lost in 43 games. The victory over the Gulls secured the top-seed for the Golden Bears in the upcoming TCCC women’s lacrosse championship.
